Is e-invoicing mandatory for my company in Malaysia?
It depends on annual turnover or revenue, and on whether you meet LHDN's exemption criteria — which consider more than turnover alone, including shareholding structure and related company arrangements. The thresholds have moved twice since December 2025, so check the current position rather than a figure you were quoted earlier.
How do we get started?
Audit your master data first. The field set LHDN requires usually has to come out of systems that were never asked for it, and that work sits on the critical path regardless of which submission route or vendor you choose. Deciding the route and the provider is quicker once you know the state of your data.
What are the main factors to consider when implementing?
Volume, which decides whether the MyInvois portal is viable at all; where your invoice data currently lives and how complete it is; and whether you trade in more than one market, since a Malaysia-only tool becomes a second system to maintain the moment another mandate applies to you.
How do we choose a service provider?
Ask whether they have done it with your ERP specifically, who fixes a failed submission outside business hours, whether adapting to a specification change is an upgrade or a chargeable project, and what you take with you if you leave. Compliance claims do not separate vendors — nearly all of them are compliant.
What happens if a submission is rejected?
It has to be corrected and resubmitted. The operational question is who finds out and how quickly: an integration that submits without reporting failures back looks like it is working until reconciliation, which is far too late to fix the document.
Can we use both the portal and the API?
Most businesses do during transition. It is worth confirming a provider supports both rather than assuming, because moving between them later is more disruptive than covering both from the start.
