Suppliers maintain their own records. They just do not get to read back what the finance system already holds.

A Thai real estate and hospitality group set out to deploy procurement end to end on a new Coupa instance, with SAP S/4HANA as its finance system.
The goals were specific rather than generic: spend compliance against contracts, against policy, and against budget. That third one is the hard one. Budget compliance after the fact is a report explaining what you have already committed to. Compliance at the point of request means the budget has to be live inside the procurement platform.
Valtatech deployed Coupa Sourcing, Procurement, Supplier Risk and Performance Management, and Analytics over a 28-week programme, integrated to SAP S/4HANA.
Delivery began with pre-workshop discovery, mapping the existing processes, policies and technology landscape before design started. That phase closes with an updated statement of work — scope written after the discovery rather than guessed before it, and signed off by both parties before the design workshops begin.
The integration carries budget, not just master data. Suppliers, lookup values (GL account, cost centre, profit centre, internal order), item master and a budget batch load all flow inbound from S/4HANA. That is what makes a budget check possible while a request is still being raised rather than after it is committed.
Outbound, supplier information management records flow back into S/4HANA. The design here is deliberately restrictive: existing S/4HANA data is not shown back to suppliers through the SIM forms beyond name, address and phone number. Both new and existing suppliers can submit information; what they cannot do is read the finance system's record of themselves.
Valtatech continues to support the platform under application managed services, with integration maintained as an ongoing service rather than handed over at go-live.

Supplier self-service is usually sold on the labour it saves. The design question that matters more is what it exposes. Letting suppliers update their own details is straightforward; letting them read back what you already hold about them is a different decision, and one worth making deliberately rather than by default.
